Blinking Girl

A very simple story today. 

Every time a girl closes her eyes, everything about her regresses. Even when she blinks. So when she sleeps she loses information she learnt that day and grows slightly shorter than before. So by the time she is twelve, she has the mind and stature of a seven year old. Why is this so?
